Denim is used for more than just your classic jeans nowadays. There are denim dresses, shirts, skirts, vests, you name it. I’m sure there are even denim shoes somewhere out there just waiting to be discovered and loved by denim admirers everywhere!
Not only are denim items becoming more popular, but it has proved to be very trendy to layer your denims together. My friend Maggie is one of those denim admirers I mentioned and is a big fan of layering her denims. (A short interview with her about her denim and fashion and inspiration to come). Here are some of her favorite denim outfits:
This first one is very simple. There is not a whole lot to it. A light denim button-up tank with dark skinny jeans and converse. One major thing about layering denim is having contrast of shades. You want to stay away from two mid-tones together, otherwise you’ll end up looking like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears in the 90’s…
The acid-washed vest and the dark skinny jeans here are a great example of contrast. Plus, adding that cheetah-patterned shirt really makes the outfit stand out of the crowd.
Oh the overalls! They’re back! But I know what you’re thinking… those two denims don’t have very much contrast–and I know. We put them together just for fun! The main idea about this set of pictures is the overalls. They are everywhere now! And they’re in all kinds of styles: short-overalls, pant-overalls, and skirt-overalls; with all kinds of patterns. It’s a fun, modern way to express our inner 90’s girl, while still staying in fashion.
So head to that local thrift shop, grab yourself some overalls and as many denim items as you can find, and hop on the denim train cause it is taking off!
