Your wedding dress is an article of clothing that you and most of your friends will remember for the rest of your lives. Feeling the pressure to pick a great one? Here’s some tips from my experience on how to pick a dress that makes you and everyone else happy.
1. Pick a dress that fits your style. If you never wear strapless dresses, is your wedding the best place to start? Maybe not. Look for dresses that are similar to things you already own and wear, but with a little more oomph. You want to be comfortable with what you’re wearing, so the best place to start is with styles you know look good on you.
2. Carefully consider who goes with you when you start shopping. Everyone has an opinion about your dress. Make sure you bring people who will support you in your decision instead of force you into a dress that you hate.
3. Look into second-hand dresses. You’ll only wear this dress for a few hours of your life, and the chances of it still being in style when your daughter gets married are slim. Buying a second hand dress that has been well cared for can cut your costs dramatically.
4. Don’t be afraid to break the mold. If you don’t typically wear white, go for a soft pastel. If you don’t want to have a train, look into tea length dresses. You’ll look best in something that you feel confident in.
Make sure that whatever dress you pick is what you really want, not just something to make your mom happy. If you feel great in it, you’ll look great in it. Good luck shopping!
